Meet Dr. Andrew Brafman

Dr. Andrew Brafman, a 1976 graduate of New Jersey Dental School, has been practicing prosthetic dentistry in this community for 39 years. He did his prosthodontic training at Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry immediately following graduation from New Jersey Dental School.

Dr. Brafman first practiced in Maplewood, NJ before moving his practice to West Orange in 1993. In addition, Dr. Brafman has been on the faculty of Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (formerly New Jersey Dental School) since 1980. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Restorative Dentistry.

As a faculty member at the dental school, Dr. Brafman has served as Acting Chairman of the Department of Operative Dentistry, been course director for courses in dentures, partial dentures and occlusion. Currently, Dr. Brafman teaches both undergraduate prosthodontics and post-graduate prosthodontics.

In teaching post-graduate prosthodontics, Dr. Brafman mentors and guides residents in the same procedures he performs in his private practice. This includes implant restorations, full mouth reconstruction, fabrication of dentures and placement of porcelain veneers. His opinions are sought by students and faculty in the areas of esthetics and for advice in treatment planning. He is a past recipient of the ‘Excellence in Teaching’ award.

“By being on the faculty of the dental school, it allows me to interact with my colleagues to discuss cases in my practice and discuss the newest procedures and materials. Teaching also gives me the opportunity to ‘give back to my profession’. I feel it is important to help others who will be the future of the dental profession. By being both clinician and educator, I can practice what I preach.”

Dr. Brafman is a member of the American Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association, Essex County Dental Association, American College of Prosthodontics and New Jersey Section of the American College of Prosthodontics. Dr. Brafman attends numerous continuing education courses throughout the year.

Dr. Brafman has always lived in this community. Raised in South Orange, he lives in West Orange and his wife is from Livingston. He has three daughters (none dentists!). He has been active in the community, having been elected to the West Orange Board of Education and serving for five years.

My philosophy in my office is to provide the highest level of treatment in a warm and friendly environment. This is accomplished by having a well trained staff who share this attitude. Our goal is to make you feel welcome, at ease and calm. “I have had many patients tell me that they actually like going to the dentist because they know that we care about them.” His office is modern, comfortable and handicapped accessible. Early morning and Saturday appointments are available.

I want my patients to know that I care about them. I want them to know that I will treat them with respect and kindness. I want them to know that they deserve the best treatment possible!
