Dr. Lysandro “Sonny” Tapnio graduated in 1977 from University of East Philippines and earned a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (D.M.D.) He did a postdoctoral residency at the New York University Dental Center from 1983 to 1984, studying clinical courses in general dentistry. After he completed his courses at New York University, he began his own dental practice in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1985.

Since 1985, he has completed several hundred hours in post-graduate continuing education courses, including hands-on training courses all over the country. These courses include orthodontic courses for general dentists, comprehensive cosmetic and restorative techniques, concept of complete dentistry, and current developments in restorative materials and techniques, just to name a few. He has earned Mastership and Fellowship status in the American Dental Implant Association, and is proud to offer dental implant placements and restorations as part of his list of services.

Dr. Tapnio remains committed to high ethics and quality dentistry. He pampers his patients with personal attention and customer service with a calm and caring chairside manner. Because Dr. Tapnio is the only dentist in the office, you may expect great attention to detail and the peace of mind that one person knows your specific case and is the one you will always see.

Known to many as the “Gentle Dentist,” Dr. Tapnio has a very calm and reassuring manner with both children and adults. The dental anxiety that many experience is soon overcome, and visiting the dentist becomes a pleasant experience for the whole family.

His gentle and soft touch is especially appreciated when there is need for local anesthesia. In fact, it is not uncommon to hear, “Did you already give me a shot Doc? I didn’t even feel it!”

Dr. Tapnio has been happily married for 34 years to Nicca Tapnio, with two kids, and five grandchildren. The recreational activities he enjoys most are fishing and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Leah joined Beacon Family Dentistry in 2012. She graduated from Orlando Technical Institute for Dental assisting in 2006, where she discovered her passion for dentistry. Leah worked as a clinical chair-side assistant for four years before moving to the front office, resulting in a comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of dentistry. Leah also has in-depth experience with dental insurance and enjoys helping patients maximize their benefits. She spends her time outside of work with her daughter and two Jack Russells. She also plays guitar, writes music, does yoga and gymnastics, and musical theater.

Becky graduated from Florida State College at Jacksonville in 2016 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She joined our team in March 2017. Becky enjoys making patients feel comfortable during dental cleanings and educating patients on ways they can improve their oral hygiene. During her free time, she enjoys painting, weightlifting, eating cookies, and spending time with her dog.

Jessica is a Rhode Island native who graduated as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) and has a very strong passion for Dentistry! Jessica values achieving optimal oral health for her patients in addition to providing comfort at all times. Jessica says, “You can count on Beacon Family Dentistry, where our gentle dentist will always perform outstanding work.” In her spare time, Jessica enjoys the beach, water sports and spending time with her family.
