Give Your Damaged Tooth a Second Chance

Dental crowns could give your smile the protection it needs to thrive.dental crowns

Accidents happen and unfortunately, it’s our smiles that can sometimes bear the brunt of it. No matter whether you bit down on something that was too hard, had a cavity you didn’t know about or are dealing with a cosmetically unsightly tooth, our Lincoln Park, Chicago dentists Dr. Allen Momongan and Dr. Matthew Flak are here to tell you how a dental crown might just end up being exactly what you need to get your smile back on track.

Okay, so you probably know what a dental crown is; however, maybe you aren’t too sure how this tooth-shaped restoration can help you. This hollow, custom-made restoration is fitted and cemented into place over a tooth to protect it and strengthen it. Our Chicago cosmetic dentists in Lincoln Park might recommend getting a dental crown if you are dealing with,

  • A tooth that is cracked, fractured or broken
  • A tooth that has incurred extensive decay that a dental filling won’t support
  • A tooth that is weak or damaged by trauma, infection or wear and tear
  • A tooth that is severely discolored or misshapen
  • Tooth loss (a dental crown can support a dental bridge or cover a dental implant)

How is a dental crown placed?

First and foremost, if the tooth is damaged, decayed or infected the problem will need to be treated before we place the crown. This might mean removing significant portions of the tooth to prevent a fracture from getting worse or removing the decay or the source of infection. Once this is complete, we will take impressions of the tooth to get its exact measurements. From there, we will send the molds of your teeth to a dental lab so they can make your custom crown. Of course, we will place a temporary crown over the tooth to protect it in the interim.

Once your crown has been made, you’ll come back into the office so that we can check the fit before cementing the crown in place over your tooth.

The Dental Practice of Lincoln Park is dedicated to providing you with the individualized and compassionate dentistry you’ve been looking for in Chicago, IL.
