Sedation Dentistry with Nitrous Oxide Analgesia

Nitrous oxide analgesia, commonly known as laughing gas, is used to decrease the pain and anxiety associated with dental treatment.  The effect of nitrous oxide is often remarkable. A patient that was anxious just a minute or two before treatment will become relaxed and calm. Nitrous oxide is very useful for children to increase analgesia, relaxation, and cooperation. Nitrous oxide is also very useful for patients who gag easily.

Minima Sedation Dentistry with Oral Sedation

Dr. Elseweifi only offers oral minimal sedation dentistry.  With minimal sedation, the patient stays fully alert and able to respond to questions and breath on his own.  Sedation dentist Dr. Elseweifi gives the patient anti-anxiety medication by mouth, usually an hour before treatment and does not do IV sedation at this time. The medication induces relaxation, but Best of all, the medications create such a comfortable experience that most patients do not remember the visit. People often feel like their dental procedure lasts only a few minutes when in fact it might have taken hours to perform.

We may also prescribe anti-anxiety or a sleeping pill the night before the appointment, an hour before going to bed. This can help with falling asleep and getting some rest.

Sedation dentist Dr. Elseweifi offers minimal sedation dentistry for adults and sedation dentistry for children. He also offers sedation dentistry to patients with special needs.
