What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a safe way to brighten your smile. Your dentist whitens your teeth professionally, making them up to eight shades whiter in a single hour.

What types of teeth whitening methods are there?

There are two ways to whiten your smile: in-office whitening or taking a teeth-whitening kit from your dentist to use at home.

What does an in-office teeth whitening procedure consist of?

This is a quick and powerful technique that offers almost instant results. Here's what the procedure consists of:

  1. Your Charlotte dentist covers your gums and tooth-root surfaces with a protective barrier.
  2. A thin plastic retractor is placed in your mouth to hold your lips and cheeks away from your teeth.
  3. A professional-strength hydrogen peroxide gel is applied on teeth and left on for about an hour.
  4. The gel is removed, revealing your newly whitened teeth.

What does a take-home teeth whitening kit consist of?

  1. A mold of your teeth is made to create two custom-made thin, flexible plastic mouth trays, one for the top teeth and one for the bottom set of teeth.
  2. At home, you will fill the trays with whitening gel and insert trays over teeth.
  3. Leave the trays for about an hour for optimum results.
  4. Repeat over time to the directions of your dentist.

How do you caring for your whitened smile?

There's nothing complex when it comes to caring for whitened teeth. You simply need to brush at least twice a day, floss once daily, and visit our Charlotte office every 6 months for regular checkups.
