Should I Consider Dentures?

Find out if getting dentures is the right move for your smile.

What are dentures?

Dentures are removable oral prosthetics that replace several or all of your missing natural teeth. Simply put, dentures are fake teeth Denturesthat are designed to replace and restore your smile. Dentures have a base (that mimics the look of your gums) that also holds a series of artificial teeth.

What are the different kinds of dentures?

There are two main types of dentures: partial and complete. Partial dentures only replace a few missing teeth, preventing the other surrounding teeth from shifting position. Complete or full dentures will replace all of your teeth.

Patients will sometimes wear 'immediate' dentures, which they can get at their Charlotte, NC dentist the same day. These are temporary and are common after tooth extractions so the patient will never have to go without teeth. The patient will wear this temporary denture until their conventional dentures are complete.

Are dentures right for me?

If you have some natural teeth left, then you will only need to opt for partial dentures. For those with no natural teeth left, complete dentures will give you back your smile.

Keep in mind that dentures aren't just for the older population. Patients of all ages can benefit from wearing dentures. If tooth loss is having an effect on your smile and your self-confidence, then it’s time to talk to your Charlotte, NC dentist about getting dentures.

How do I get dentures?

After your mouth has healed from any necessary extractions, getting dentures usually takes about a month and several visits to our office. The first visit will just diagnose your tooth loss and determine which dentures are right for you. The second visit requires us to take an impression or your mouth to get the proper dimensions for your jaw. Then we will fit you with a trial pair of dentures to make sure the look and fit are right for you. Lastly, we will fit you with your final dentures and possibly make some small adjustments to them. Voila! Your smile is complete.
