Restorative

In dentistry, the term restoration refers to reproducing a tooth using metal and/or tooth-colored materials. This fabrication process is done by a dental technician.

Many people postpone going to the dentist out of fear, preferring to live with excruciating mouth pain rather than face whatever unknown horrors lie ahead at the dentist’s office. For decades, dentistry has been stereotyped as the branch of medicine in which the cure is more frightening than the disease, itself.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The treatment of serious dental problems is easier and more comfortable than ever before. Recovery time and post-procedural discomfort have been dramatically reduced over the years, meaning that in most cases you will be able to resume normal activity almost immediately. Factor in Dr. Wilkop’s gentle touch and compassionate manner and you may be surprised at how relaxing and pleasant a trip to the dentist can be.

Truly, there is no reason to live with tooth pain when safe, gentle, comfortable treatment is only an office visit or two away.

Crowns, or caps for teeth, look and function just like natural teeth. Dr. Wilkop may recommend a crown if your tooth has enough decay that it cannot hold a filling, or if your tooth is cracked or broken and in danger of cracking down into the root if left unattended. A crown covers your tooth completely. It fits snugly at the gum and protects what remains of the natural tooth.

A bridge may be utilized to replace one or more teeth. These restorations are cemented onto the teeth and are referred to as "fixed" dentistry as opposed to a restoration of missing teeth with a removable appliance or partial denture.
