Parts of a Dental Implant
In order to understand how a dental implant replaces missing teeth, you should first understand how this restoration works. An implant is made up of three different parts,
- A small titanium post that’s up to 10mm long
- An abutment, which connects the post with the false tooth
- The false tooth or teeth (this will depend on the number of missing teeth you are replacing)
The titanium post acts like tooth roots, and is placed into the jawbone by our Riverview, FL, dentist. From there, the implant and jawbone will fuse together (this takes several months) until they become one. Once complete, the abutment is placed on top of the implant and it links up the implant (which will be hidden under the gums within the jawbone) with a dental crown or false teeth. It can take several months to get a full dental implant, depending on how many are being placed.
