Learn more about restoring your smile the Lifetime Family Dental way.

A denture can be a blessing

No one wants to lose teeth and endure awkward smile gaps, bone loss, and impaired speech and chewing. That's why Dr. Aroon Pal and Dr. Amer Atassi offer beautiful, lifelike denture choices to restore confidence, oral function, and personal appearance.

Your dentist uses information garnered from a complete oral exam, X-rays, three-dimensional imaging (as needed), and digital impressions to determine the type, size, and shape of your denture. Your denture may be removable or fixed in place with titanium dental implants.

Also, know that it will take some time to adjust to your dentures. They'll require consistent care, too, for best fit, oral health, and durability.

Types of dentures

Depending on your care plan, Dr. Pal or Dr. Atassi will offer you one of the following denture types:

  1. Partial dentures: Made of one or more acrylic teeth and gum tissue, partial dentures are mounted on a metal frame and anchor to your natural teeth with clasps or precision attachments. Most partials are removable for cleaning and so your mouth can rest as you sleep.
  2. Immediate dentures Placed right after extractions, these removable appliances replace full arches of teeth. You will have a complete smile right away, but they have the disadvantage of fitting poorly after tissues have healed. Most immediate dentures require relining for better fit and function.
  3. Conventional dentures Placed after extraction sites heal, these full dentures adhere to the gums and supporting bone with your own saliva, says Sharecare. Some patients like to add a bit of adhesive to their appliances to ensure a stable fit. Conventional dentures are removable and typically last five to ten years or more.
  4. Implant-supported dentures Surgically inserted dental implants provide a strong foundation for partial or full dentures. Made of titanium, these devices attract human bone through osseointegration. Dentures usually require two, four, or even six implants per arch.
