Infection Control Efforts at Our Practice

When it comes to getting dental care, we take your health seriously.

You may be wondering, “Should I go to the dentist during the pandemic.” We understand our patients’ concerns, but we also know just how important it is for everyone to be able to get the proper dental care they need throughout the year to prevent more serious problems from occurring. Our Atlanta, GA, dentist Dr. Thomas Kauffman and his team want you to know what to expect when you come into the office, and how we are doing our part to protect your health.

Let’s Mask Up

It’s important to wear a mask to protect others, so not only is Dr. Kauffman and his entire staff wearing proper PPE at all times, but we also expect our patients to wear masks when coming into our office. Let’s do our part to protect those around us. Don’t forget your mask when coming in for your next dental appointment.

Upping Our Cleaning Game

As a dentist's office, our goal has always been to keep the office clean as well as to maintain optimal sterilization practices. Of course, now it’s even more important than ever that the office you walk into is free from germs. That’s why we are currently using a disinfectant fogger that sterilizes all surfaces in a matter of seconds. It’s even EPA approved to kill 99.9 percent of viruses, bacteria and mold (this includes COVID-19).

One of the first signs of COVID-19 is a fever, so we will need to check everyone’s temperature the moment they walk through our doors. Of course, it’s also the responsibility of our patients to cancel and reschedule appointments if they are feeling sick.

If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19, or if you’ve been around someone who has tested positive, it’s important that you don’t come into the office until you are well. We want to keep all of our patients healthy during these challenging times.

Improve Your At-Home Oral Routine

While you’re home, this is the perfect time to improve your dental routine to make sure that you are doing everything you can to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Here are some useful tips (some of which you may already know) for supporting a healthy smile,

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes each time
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste
  • Swap out your toothbrush head every 3-4 months or immediately after being sick
  • Floss once a day
  • Use antimicrobial mouthwash about 30 minutes after brushing your teeth
  • Avoid sugars and starches, and eat a healthy, balanced diet full of whole, unprocessed foods
  • Limit or avoid alcohol

If you have questions or concerns about your upcoming dental visit, don’t hesitate to give us a call at (404) 524-1981. We would be happy to discuss all the safety precautions we’ve put in place.
