Basics of Cyst Removal 

There are different procedures available for removing a cyst, depending on the type, its size, and where on the body it’s located. However, the basics of the removal are the same. 

• You’ll receive a local anesthetic prior to the procedure. 
• An incision will be made. 
• The entire cyst will be removed. 

Some treated areas will need to be stitched up while others can remain open for healing. Your provider will discuss which of these options will apply to you. 

The procedure typically takes less than an hour. It will take about two to four weeks to heal, but you can go home on the same day. 

How Cysts Are Removed

There are several types of cysts that form. The removal process typically depends on the type of cyst you have. The following are some of the most common types:

• Sebaceous cyst
• Epidermoid cyst
• Ganglion cyst
