Replace Your Teeth With Dentures

Replace your missing or extracted teeth with dentures. Not only do they restore your smile, but they also restore your ability to chew a variety of foods. Additionally, dentures can help minimize some of the side effects that often occur with tooth loss, such as changes in speech. Several types of dentures are available to meet a variety of needs. Dr. Meghan Potee, the highly skilled dentist at our office in Noblesville, IN can determine which dentures will best meet your needs.

Types of Dentures

We have several types of dentures at our office in Noblesville. The different types fall into two main categories: partial and complete dentures. Partial dentures can be used when some natural teeth still remain and only the gaps between them need to be filled. Complete or full dentures are needed when there are no teeth left and they all need to be replaced.

Types of partial dentures include transitional and removable. Transitionals are worn temporarily to give you a full smile and restore biting and chewing functions while waiting for custom dentures. Removable partial dentures are meant to be worn long term and replace transitional dentures. They are custom made for the best possible fit. Fabricating custom dentures takes time, which is why transitional dentures are often worn in the interim.

Types of complete dentures include immediate and conventional. Immediate full dentures are similar to transitional partial dentures as they are usually only meant to be worn temporarily following the extraction of any remaining teeth. Conventional dentures are custom made, meant to be worn long term, and provide a better fit because they conform to the mouth over time.

Implant-supported dentures are another type that can be used to fill in gaps or replace a full row of teeth. This type of denture is held in place by several dental implants. Implant-supported dentures are extremely secure since the dental implants are permanently rooted in bone tissue.

Benefits of Dentures

Dentures provide multiple benefits. They restore your smile by replacing missing or extracted teeth. Another benefit of dentures is that they restore your ability to chew so you can enjoy a wider range of foods once again. Dentures also eliminate excess strain on any remaining natural teeth that had been compensating for missing ones.

Dentures can also minimize or reverse many of the side effects caused by tooth loss. Facial sagging and changes in speech, for example, often occur after tooth loss. The teeth help support facial muscles so when some are missing, the cheeks can begin to droop. The teeth also help guide the tongue when speaking. Losing teeth can alter speech when the tongue slips into the gaps where the teeth once were.

If you are missing teeth, they can be replaced with dentures. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Meghan Potee to discuss restoring your smile with dentures by calling our office in Noblesville, IN at (317) 773-0883.
