What can you do about achilles tendon pain?

Image result for runner pictures

Achilles tendonitis is a common problem that causes pain in the back of the ankle and can be very painful and also potentially put you at risk for more severe injuries.  In the early stages, the tendon becomes inflammed and can be treated with several different conservative therapies including resting, icing, eccentric achilles stretching exercises, anti-inflammatories, physical therapy, and heel lifts or custom orthotics.

If the inflammation continues, the tendon can start to degenerate into tendinosis and put you at risk to rupture your achilles tendon.  There are other most advanced treatments that can help in these circumstances such as platelet rich plasma injections and surgical options.  If you are experiencing problems with your foot or ankle, call our Colorado Springs podiatrist today at 719-488-4664.
