Heel Pain

Woman touching her foot, one hand in a heel and other in her legHeel pain continues to be the reason most people come into our office for treatment. While it might not seem like a big deal at the time, early intervention and treatment are key to preventing that pesky little pain from turning into a long-term problem.

Heel pain is most often caused by a condition known as plantar fasciitis, in which the band of tissue known as the plantar fascia becomes inflamed. The plantar fascia runs the length of the feet from the heel along the soles of the feet all the way to the toes, providing support for the arches. If your experience stabbing heel pain under the heel first thing in the morning and pain that radiates to the arches of the feet then you are most likely dealing with plantar fasciitis.

If you spend a lot of time on your feet then you may be at an increased risk for developing heel pain. Runners, athletes and those who are overweight are also prone to heel pain. While there is certainly nothing great about experiencing heel pain the good news is that it can be treated with conservative home care such as rest, anti-inflammatory medication and stretching.

The key to treating your heel pain is to start treating the problem right away when pain first sets in. It’s also important to recognize when heel pain may require professional care. If home care isn’t providing you with the pain relief you need, or if the heel pain is lasting more than a week then it’s time to turn to us. Dr. Matthew Hinderland, Dr. Jordan Cameron and their expert team are here to help you get your heel pain under control, no matter the cause.

From steroid injections and custom orthotics to surgery, our podiatry team can provide you with all the latest and most advanced treatment options to treat even the most severe and stubborn cases of heel pain.

If heel pain has you canceling your plans and isn’t getting better with home care then it’s time to turn to a doctor.
