Well-Child Exams

Well-Child Exams

Keep track of your child’s health and development by consulting Dr. Anita Kishen, Dr. Vani Gayam, or Dr. Shanda Johnson of Kids Care Pediatrics and scheduling well-child exams in Plainfield or Colonia, NJ.

What Happens During a Well-Child Exam?

A well-child exam provides a clear picture of your child’s condition. You will learn important information about your child’s development during this examination. If your child is exhibiting symptoms that could be related to a medical issue, you will learn about them during the well-child visit. The well-child exam tells you everything you need to know about your kid from a medical standpoint.

Your pediatrician will conduct various examinations to obtain essential information about your child’s health. These tests will gauge the performance of your child’s heart, lungs, eyes, and ears. They will also note your child’s height and weight to determine if they are in line with expectations for their age.

Expect to answer plenty of questions during the well-child exam. The pediatrician will likely ask about your child’s sleep and potty habits. Visits with school-age children may also involve conversations about their relationships with other kids and academic performance. The doctor may speak to your child directly about those topics.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions during these well-child exams. If you have questions about your child’s health or behavior, the well-child exam is the time to bring them up.

The aforementioned visits are not just for tracking your child’s condition. Those appointments are also ideal for administering vaccinations. Arrange those vaccinations beforehand so you can prepare your child.
Set well-child exams in Plainfield or Colonia, NJ, after speaking to Dr. Kishen, Dr. Gayam, or Dr. Johnson of Kids Care Pediatrics.

What Is the Ideal Schedule for Well-Child Exams?

Well-child exams should be prominent parts of your kid’s early life. The first appointment should take place when your child is three to five days old. This first visit is critical for determining if your baby is doing well outside of the hospital setting.

The next visit should be set one month after your child’s birth and then another one after that. You can then set additional visits when your child is four or six months old. From there, you should set well-child visits three months apart until your child is a year and a half old. Moving forward, you can arrange appointments separated by six months until your child turns three.

After your child reaches the age of three, you can limit the well-child exams to annual appointments.
