Manual vs Electric Toothbrush

Manual vs Electric Toothbrush; which one is better?

Is powered toothbrush better than manual? No, not necessarily!

Manual & electric toothbrushes are both equally effective in cleaning your teeth & gums. Research have demonstrated similar results using manual & powered toothbrushes, provided that one use it long enough and with a correct technique. Nevertheless, it should be highlighted that people who have difficulty using manual toothbrushes may find electric toothbrushes easier to use.

The bottom line is that you need to brush twice a day using the correct technique. Do not forget to brush gently but for a long time. It takes more than 2 minutes to clean different surfaces of all your teeth.

One of the best ways to brush your teeth is Modified Bass technique. It is recommended to place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to where your tooth meets your gums (gum line) from outside and inside of your teeth. Also do not forget to brush the top of your teeth gently.

On the side note, make sure to replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months or as soon as bristles are frayed & worn.

Lastly, fluoride toothpastes are also crucial in an optimal home care regimen. Choose it wisely & try not to fall into the trap of advertisements. In today’s world of organics & so called clean ingredients, not everything organic, gluten free or charcoal-infused are good and safe for you & your family. Consult with Dr Kheirieh, Prosthodontist, and Dr Najafi, Periodontist to help you decide based on your dental needs. Know your risks of dental caries (decay), periodontal disease (gum disease), xerostomia (dry mouth), and oral cancer.

Brush, Floss and stick to your routine dental check up! Even if you brush and floss your teeth faithfully, it is important that you have your teeth professionally checked and cleaned on a regular basis.
