James E. Turner, MD, PhD

RETIRED effective JANUARY 2021 

Dr. Turner is the founder of Mid-South Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center in Bartlett, and is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the UT Department of Dermatology, Memphis.

A longstanding member of many professional associations, Dr. Turner is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatological Surgery. He maintains active membership in several associations, including the Memphis Dermatology Society, serving as president for three terms, and the Tennessee Dermatology Society, serving as president in 2006. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and served as a member of the Bioterrorism Ad Hoc Task Force. He is a member of the Dermatology Foundation’s Annenberg Circle and serves on the President’s Council for the National Psoriasis Foundation. He was Medical Director of the Memphis chapter of the Herpes Help Group from 1982 to 1995, and was a Board member of the Memphis chapter of the Lupus Foundation for 3 years. Dr. Turner contributes to several pharmaceutical advisory boards, and has participated in clinical trials investigating the microbiology and immunology of skin diseases.  His presentations on local, national and international levels have covered topics such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, herpes virus infections, skin tumors, onychomycosis, bioterrorism, and others.  His recent publications have addressed emerging biologic and anti-inflammatory therapies for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

Dr. Turner, Captain US Naval Medical Corps, served in Desert Storm in 1991, was retired in 1999 and maintains an advisory and treatment role for the Naval BUPERS Command in Millington.
