Common Causes of Rashes

The medical name for heat rash is miliaria. Known as prickly heat or sweat rash, it is the result of heat and the inability of the skin to get rid of the sweat. The rash often appears in areas where skin touches skin. It is common in hot and humid conditions and is mildly itchy and may produce a burning sensation. If it gets warm to the touch, oozes fluid or if you develop a fever or nausea, you need to call your doctor. 

Intertrigo

Intertrigo is a contact rash that develops in places where skin touches skin, like under the breast, in the groin or in skin folds. It responds well to antifungal creams and to keeping the area clean and dry. 

Poison Ivy, Oak and Sumac

When you come into contact with one of these poisonous plants, the most common reaction is a red rash. If you have a mild reaction, you can treat the rash at home with calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream, but if it gets close to one or both of your eyes or your genitals, you should call your doctor asap. 

Rash With Fever

If you have a fever with your rash in Chicago, IL, that can indicate a serious illness. Lyme disease, scarlet fever, rheumatic fever, shingles and measles all have rash as a symptom. 

Hives

Hives are an itchy rash that is a reaction to an allergen, or it can be caused by other things like stress and exercise. Figuring out what caused the hives is important so that you can avoid contact with what you are allergic to. Antihistamine medication can help to relieve the symptoms.
