Allergies

Allergies are immune reactions to plant products (pollens), mold spores, mites, pet dander, medications or foods. Our immune system somehow interprets the presence of these "allergens" as potentially threatening. The immune response to these allergens causes symptoms we call allergic reactions. These reactions may include skin rashes, nose or eye symptoms, or asthma problems such as wheezing or spasmodic coughing. People who have these immune reactions are said to be "allergic" making up about 25% of the US population. Fortunately, if we cannot avoid these allergens, there are great over the counter anti-histamines and nasal sprays to help relieve symptoms. Allergy injections can make us less allergic over time and are indicated for people cannot find enough relief from medications and avoidance.
