Did you know that the federal government of Canada plans to implement the Canada Dental Benefit plan on December 1st, 2022? While the implementation date is slated for December 1st, 2022, the program will cover expenses retroactively to October 1st, 2022. This means you can now access dental care for your child and receive reimbursement for those dental costs once the program is officially implemented.
How Much Dental Coverage Is Available For My Child?
To qualify for the program, your family income must be under $90,000, allowing eligible children under 12 years old to receive dental care. Here are the amounts that each eligible child can qualify for:
- $650 is provided for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is under $70,000.
- $390 is provided for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is between $70,000 and $79,999.
- $260 is provided for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is between $80,000 and $89,999.
How Do I Access The Canada Dental Benefit?
To access the Canada Dental Benefit, parents or guardians of eligible children need to apply through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). In addition, you need to attest that:
- Your child does not have access to private dental care coverage;
- You will have out-of-pocket dental care expenses for which you will use the Benefit;
- You understand they will need to provide documentation to verify out-of-pocket expenses occurred (e.g. show receipts) if required.
