Same Day Sick Visits: What To Expect

Same Day Sick Visits: What To Expect

When your child is sick, you want help fast. That’s the purpose of same-day sick visits–to provide medical care when your child needs it most. Drs. Komal Afzal, Iris Li, and Joseph Gali at LG Pediatrics in Los Gatos, CA, offer a wide range of pediatric medical services, including same-day sick visits.

What You Need To Know About Same-Day Sick Visits

Common illnesses which are treated during a sick child visit include:

  • Fever
  • Viruses like colds or the flu
  • Bacterial infections like strep throat
  • Rashes and other skin irritations
  • Cuts, lacerations, and other skin injuries
  • Eye problems, including pink eye
  • Ear problems, including ear infections

When you bring your child in for a same-day sick visit, your pediatrician will perform a comprehensive physical examination of your child to determine overall health. Your pediatrician will also record a full medical history, including signs, symptoms, medications your child is taking, recent illnesses and hospitalizations, and other important information. Depending on your child’s condition, the pediatrician may also order necessary lab testing and imaging studies to aid in diagnosis.

Once a diagnosis is established, our pediatrician will develop a customized treatment plan to help your child feel better. Depending on the diagnosis, your pediatrician might:

  • Prescribe antibiotics, if your child has an infection
  • Prescribe antivirals, if your child has a viral illness
  • Clean and bandage any cuts, lacerations, or injuries
  • Recommend palliative treatments at home for comfort

Remember that same-day sick visits are not a substitute for regular well-child visits. Well-child visits monitor your child’s overall health carefully, to prevent illness in the future, so your child can stay healthy.
