Eating with Braces
Taking care of your braces is essential throughout your entire treatment. But what does that mean for you? We are here to help you achieve a beautiful smile that will last a lifetime.
Although there are a few foods you will have to eliminate for a short period of time to prevent any damage to your appliances, you can still enjoy a variety of treats.
Foods to Avoid:
- Hard foods: Ice, hard candy, nuts, pizza crust
- Sticky foods: gum, caramel,
- Chewy foods: bagels
- Crunchy foods: popcorn, chips, pretzels
Try to avoid biting into hard foods with your front teeth. When possible, cut up these hard foods into smaller pieces:
- Raw vegetables
- Croutons, french/italianbread
- Fruit such as apples or pitted fruits
- Thin crust pizza
- Meat that is too tough
- Sub sandwiches
- Corn on the cob
Recommended Foods When Wearing Braces
- Soft food: mashed potatoes, pasta, rice
- Dairy: Yogurt, ice cream (no nuts), soft cheese
- Fruits: Bananas, grapes, oranges, strawberries
- Light crackers or cookies
- Pasta: Ravioli, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese
- Treats: Smoothies, shakes, jello, cake
