Emergency Dentistry Q & A

What is emergency dentistry?
Emergency dentistry refers to dental services and treatments that need to be delivered promptly and efficiently. Some dental emergencies involve saving broken or knocked-out teeth. If you or your loved one are dealing with a dental emergency, immediate and accurate dental care could save your natural tooth.

Dr. Azhar provides several effective emergency dentistry treatments, such as crowns, root canals, fillings, and tooth extractions.

How do I know if I am having a dental emergency?
You should visit Family Dental Wellness Center if you have concerns regarding a moderate-to-severe mouth injury. If you take quick action, you can receive treatment as quickly as possible.

Some of the most common dental emergencies include:

  • Bleeding in your mouth
  • Trauma to your mouth or face area
  • Uncomfortable swelling in your gums, tongue, or mouth
  • Intense tooth or mouth pain
  • A severely cracked or broken tooth
  • A cut or tear on your lips
  • Knocked-out teeth
  • A loose permanent tooth

At Family Dental Wellness Center, the qualified dental professionals take time to address your concerns, answer your questions, and discuss your treatment options and how you can best take care of and optimize your dental health.

If your tooth isn’t painful and only slightly chipped, it might not be a dental emergency, but you should still visit Family Dental Wellness Center for an evaluation.

What should I do with a knocked-out tooth?
Without the right emergency dental care in some serious dental emergencies, such as a knocked-out tooth, you could end up losing your tooth.

If you have a knocked-out tooth, you should clean your mouth and your injured tooth, particularly if it’s fallen out and gotten dirty. Rinse your tooth and mouth with lukewarm water, and avoid touching your tooth’s roots.

When you’re cleaning your tooth, gently hold it by the crown or the top. Use light pressure and gently and carefully reposition your cleaned tooth into your empty gum socket.

Softly bite down on a gauze pad to hold your tooth in place until you can visit Family Dental Wellness Center. You should call Dr. Azhar as soon as you can or have someone call to obtain medical advice and explain your dental emergency.

If you’re unable to place your tooth back in the socket, preserve your tooth by placing it in a small cup of milk until you get to the dental office.

The Family Dental Wellness Center team is here to help when the unexpected happens. If you have a dental emergency, come into the office or call to speak with a team member. Alternatively, non-emergency visits can be booked online.
