What is Celbrea®?
Celbrea® is an FDA-cleared, affordable medical device. It’s composed of two disposable pads that cover the surface of each of the patient’s breasts to detect temperature changes on the surface of the breast skin. Celbrea® is noninvasive, painless, and in just 15 minutes it may alert the physician and patient of a potential underlying breast pathology.
How does Celbrea® work?
With 1000+ micro-sensors, Celbrea® detects temperature differences on the surface of the breast skin. Studies have shown that breast tumors have a slightly higher temperature than surrounding breast tissue because they begin to divide more quickly and form new blood vessels, a process known as angiogenesis.
What information will Celbrea® give me and my doctor?
Celbrea® can identify areas on the breast that have higher temperatures, which may be related to breast disease. The Celbrea® system can inform the physician and the patient of what is their next best step for evaluation. If abnormalities are detected, the next step is usually a mammography, MRI, or another imaging test.
