Is PRP the Solution to Acne Scars?

While it mostly affects adolescents, there are plenty of adults that are living with acne. Acne can make a person self-conscious and lead to poor body image. What’s worse, the scars left behind from acne in adulthood can also leave a person feeling less than confident about their appearance. Thanks to platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, these scars may eventually become a thing of the past.

Per recent research featured in one study published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, adding PRP to treatments like micro-needling and dermabrasion showed “significantly” improved results with acne scars. The research may still be in its infancy, but it shows promise and the increasing benefits of PRP therapy.

Along with helping recovery efforts, PRP therapy has other potential cosmetic benefits, including treating the loss of hair in men and women. People suffering from the degenerative joint condition known as osteoarthritis, and disorders resulting from ongoing stress are other issues PRP therapy may help with. Because the therapy makes use of the patient’s blood, treatment rejection is virtually non-existent.
