Don’t Let Gynecomastia Affect Your Self Image

When the tissue located under the nipples of a young man begins to grow, they may begin to resemble small breasts, a condition known as gynecomastia. The condition typically occurs during the early stages of puberty but will usually go away within a couple of months to a year.

In the event gynecomastia doesn’t go away, it may cause a male to experience feelings of embarrassment. Thankfully, male breast reduction has proven effective in treating the condition. The cosmetic surgery procedure will remove excess fat and glandular tissue, resulting in a flatter, firmer contour to the chest that appears more masculine.

Although weight loss can assist with reducing the appearance of male breasts in some men, excess glandular tissue may cause even lean men to have enlarged breasts. Following the reduction surgery, patients typically feel more confident when they are shirtless for the first time in years, thereby improving their self-image and becoming less self-conscious.

With modern liposuction technology, breast reduction surgeries have become less invasive. Treatment for gynecomastia using liposuction is often performed using local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, and a small incision is made on each side of the chest. With these incisions, an experienced cosmetic surgeon will get rid of the excess fat or glandular tissue while simultaneously sculpting a new chest contour to maintain a natural look.

The recovery process following the liposuction is simple. Most men can go back to school or work in just a few days following the procedure.
