Patients will at times come into the office and complain that they have pain shooting through their feet. Shooting pains when present are often an indication of nerve problems or causes. For a pain to travel and shoot through the foot and up into the leg, or from the leg and into the foot, there is usually a entrapment or “pinching” of the nerve at some point in the foot, ankle, leg, hip, or back.
A secondary cause of this can be found in diabetics. Neuropathy when caused by diabetes can frequently cause sharp, shooting, stabbing pains. It is important to know what the cause is to help get rid of the problem. We have several tests we do in the office as well as treatments to get this problem under control promptly.
