Signs of An Ear Infection

As an adult, it’s easy to communicate if you’re feeling pain in your ear and you should be able to identify symptoms of an ear infection fairly easily. It’s important to be able to spot symptoms in young children who may not be able to fully explain what is bothering them. Children are more likely to get ear infections and it’s important to be able to spot symptoms so that treatment can start as soon as possible. Dr. Brent Metts at North Texas Ear, Nose, & Throat in Rowlett, TX, and serving Rockwall and Garland, TX, can help you identify ear problems and can provide treatment for your child.

Signs and Symptoms of an Ear Infection

When you have a young child, it’s possible that they won’t be able to communicate what exactly might be hurting them. It’s important that you notice certain symptoms that may indicate that your child is experiencing ear pain. If you notice that they’re tugging or pulling at an ear, having trouble sleeping, or are crying more than usual, that’s a clear indication that they may be experiencing an ear infection.

Your child may also have trouble responding to sounds, have a loss of balance, or have a fever of 100 F or higher. They may also experience fluid draining from their ear. If you notice any of these signs of ear problems, you should visit your ENT doctor in Rowlett, TX, and serve Rockwall and Garland, TX, as soon as possible to discuss treating your child’s ear infection. They may need antibiotics, or in severe cases, may need tubes implanted to help with drainage.
