Preparing for a Pediatrician Appointment: A Checklist

If you’re searching for a pediatrician in or around Mount Dora, FL, Dr. Samuel Divaker and Dr. Rezia Divaker at Divaker Pediatrics are committed to helping your child live a healthy life.

Preparing for a Visit to Your Pediatrician

Pediatric visits are crucial to children’s mental and physical health. However, these visits can cause some level of stress for parents who aren’t sure how to prepare. Below, Dr. Samuel and Dr. Rezia of Divaker Pediatrics in Mount Dora, FL, share tips and insights into preparing for a pediatrician visit.

Schedule the Appointment on a Light Day

Having to rush from one errand or appointment to the next is not only overwhelming for the parent. It can also make your child tired and fussy, which can make a pediatric visit more stressful. Aim instead to have the appointment on a day when nothing or little else is going on.

Pack a Bag

There are a few things you should take with you. Insurance cards and any forms for school or daycare are just a couple of examples.

Additionally, babies have to be completely undressed for their appointment, so bring a blanket for comfort and some extra warmth. An extra set of clothes is wise, too, as well as bottles, formula, nursing necessities, and pacifiers. For extra ease, be sure your child comes dressed in clothes that are easy to take off.

For toddlers and older children, bring toys, books, a favorite stuffed animal, or something else to keep them occupied. Consider bringing a book or something for yourself, as well.

Have Questions and Concerns On-Hand

Pediatric appointments are a great resource for parents, as you can ask questions and express concerns. If you feel like your child isn’t sleeping enough or sleeps too much, for example, their doctor can provide insight, recommendations, and – when necessary – tests. Keep a list of anything you need to discuss and take it with you.

Have Information On-Hand When Possible

You’ll be asked questions about family medical history, your child’s sleeping and eating habits, bowel movements, and more – depending on their age. You might not have all the information in your memory, but you can keep notes about things before the visit to make answering those questions easier. You might also consider talking to a relative about any known medical issues in the family.
