  • REM sleep behavior disorder
  • Narcolepsy
  • Restless leg syndrome

Diagnosing Sleep Disorders

In order to properly diagnose sleep disorders, a patient must come into our clinic for an evaluation. This usually means that the patient needs to stay overnight so we can properly study their sleep habits and behaviors. At our clinic, we diagnose all forms of sleep disorders through a comprehensive range of different sleep study tests.

The Sleep Disorder Tests and Evaluations We Offer

The most common sleep test we perform is a polysomnogram, which records your muscle contractions, eye movements, respiration, heart rate, oxygen levels, and brain waves while you sleep. Through these measurements, we can study different sleep cycles and determine if there are any disruptions in your nightly sleep pattern. This study is often used to detect sleep apnea, limb movement disorder (e.g. restless leg syndrome), REM sleep behavior disorder, narcolepsy, and insomnia. We also perform multiple sleep latency tests to rule out sleep disorders that often cause daytime sleepiness such as narcolepsy and hypersomnia. This test studies how quickly a patient falls asleep during the day, which means that it’s performed as a full-day study with scheduled naps. The patient is instructed to lie down with the lights off to see how long it takes for them to fall asleep.

We offer a variety of diagnostic tests and treatment options to help determine what’s causing your sleep disturbances. To find out how our sleep clinic could help you, call Atwal Sleep & Wellness Center at (315) 214-5912 to schedule an appointment!
