Are You Making Any of These Oral Care Mistakes?

Are You Making Any of These Oral Care Mistakes?

Oral hygiene and care are paramount to overall health. Keeping your mouth and teeth healthy has more far-reaching benefits than many realize. There is also a lot of room for error. Between common mistakes and even some myths floating around, some people don’t even realize they are doing anything wrong.

At ClearWave Dental & Aesthetics we want to arm you with the best information and resources to keep your mouth in tip top shape. Here are some of the most common mistakes many people make regarding oral health care.

  • Skimping on flossing. We know most people pretend they floss more than they do. It’s ok, you are not alone. But it does matter. The ADA recommends flossing once a day. It’s also important to make sure you get the teeth way in the back too. Flossing removes tons of bacteria that could otherwise cause cavities and other issues.
  • Waiting too long in between check-ups. Make sure you get your regular check-ups in every six months (or as recommended by your dentist). Your check-ups allow us to maintain that stellar smile and keep everything on track. It’s not just maintenance, it’s preventative care that can help a variety of dental issues.
  • Ignoring warning signs. Some people put off dental care when they feel pain or discomfort for fear of what it means. We don’t want you to be in any pain and can help if you come in. Don’t wait until you have unbearable pain (or any pain at all for that matter)
  • Don’t forget your tongue. When brushing, don’t forget to take care of your tongue too. Brush it or scrape it to get rid of bacteria that can lead to bad breath and even decay.
  • Replace your toothbrush more often. Too many people hang on to their toothbrushes far too long. The ADA recommends tossing your toothbrush and starting with a fresh one every three to four months. Also make sure you rinse it thoroughly after each use and store it away from other brushes.

Those are just five of the most common mistakes we see among our patients. We want you to be vigilant about oral healthcare and want to help compliment your efforts, so you always have a standout style.
