Tongue Tie

At Kids ENT of Indiana we take a comprehensive look at all things tongue-tie. The diagnosis of tongue tie or ankyloglossia has seen a dramatic rise in the last 5-10 years. While tongue tie does occur and can cause challenges with breastfeeding (specifically latching and nipple pain) and rarely speech mispronunciation in preschool kids (specifically R and L), it is being attributed to far too many things and in fact clipping is not commonly needed. Once we have evaluated the concerns raised by parents, if a tongue needs to be clipped in an infant, we can safely do this in the office without medications or lasers in a matter of minutes.

It is important to note that many things are incorrectly attributed to tongue tie. It is always very important to get to the correct diagnosis so that appropriate treatment (if any is even needed) can be provided.
