LGBTQIA Fertility, Family Building and Pregnancy

There's more than one pathway to becoming a parent if you're part of the LGBTQ community. Dr. Minna Selub of Florida Institute for Reproductive Sciences and Technologies in Weston, FL, and serving throughout South Florida and the rest of the state, including Jacksonville and Tampa areas, will help you consider the options and choose the best LGBTQ reproductive services for you.

Expanding your family with reproductive services

During your visit to the Weston, FL, office you'll learn about the ways you can have a baby with LGBTQ reproductive services. For more than 20 years, we've helped LGTBQ patients become parents using these options and technologies:

  • Therapeutic Donor Sperm Insemination: Using donor sperm can be an excellent choice if you're a lesbian couple (or a single woman) and want to become pregnant. You may wish to ask a man you know to donate sperm or choose an anonymous sperm donor. If you prefer to use an anonymous donor, you'll view an online catalog that includes information on eye and hair color, skin tone and blood type. Donor sperm is transmitted for a variety of diseases, including syphilis, gonorrhea, hepatitis B and C, HIV and cytomegalovirus.
  • Gestational Carriers: Gestational carriers, commonly called surrogates, are women who carry a baby for a person or couple. The gestational carrier may be someone you know or might be selected from an agency. Carriers are carefully screened and must be in good health to be selected. Before you finalize a contract with a gestational carrier, you'll need to hire a lawyer to handle the legal aspects, such as officially adopting the child from the birth mother.
  • In vitro Fertilization (IVF): During in vitro fertilization, eggs and sperm are fertilized in a laboratory, then the embryos are implanted in a woman's uterus. If you're a gay couple, the embryos will be placed in your gestational carrier's uterus. Some lesbian couples opt for reciprocal IVF, a procedure that involves one partner serving as the carrier for an embryo created by combining the other partner's harvested eggs with donor sperm.
