Schedule of Child Immunizations By Age in McKinney, TX

The CDC provides recommendations for specific vaccinations children need by age. While it can seem like a lot of shots, each and everyone plays an important role in their health. The following is the recommended schedule that can help you gain a better understanding. 

Birth

  • HepB – Most babies are given this within the first 24 hours of life, but some with low birth weight will not receive it until their one-month appointment. 

2 Months

  • HepB – Babies will get their second dose of HepB within one to two months of the first dose being given. 
  • DTap – Combination vaccine that fights Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Acellular Pertussis. 
  • Hib – Haemophilus Influenzae type B.
  • RV – Rotavirus vaccinne.
  • PCV – Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine.  
  • IPV – Inactivated Poliovirus vaccine. 

4 Months 

Boosters and additional doses: 

  • DTap
  • RV
  • Hib 
  • PCV 
  • IPV

6 Months 

Boosters and additional doses:

  • RV 
  • Hib
  • DTap 
  • PCV

6 to 18 Months 

These are usually given by fifteen months but some are spread to eighteen months, depending on when the previous dose was given.

  • HepB
  • IPV 
  • MMR – Measles, mumps, and rubella. 
  • Varicella – Chickenpox vaccine.
  • PCV 
  • Hib 
  • DTaP 

By 23 Months 

  • HepA – This is typically done in two shots, which occur six months apart. 

4 to 6 Years

Boosters and additional doses:

  • DTaP
  • Varicella 
  • IPV
  • MMR

11 to 12 Years 

  • MenACWY – Meningococcal vaccine, with a booster at age 16. It protects from the bacteria that fall into types A, C, W, and Y.
  • Tdap – This is the Tetanus, Diptheria, and Pertussis booster.
  • HPV – HPV vaccines are to fight the human papillomavirus. It is a series of shots that are given over several months.

16 to 18 Years 

  • MenB – This fights against the meningococcal bacteria type B. It sometimes needs two to three doses. 

Other Vaccinations 

There are additional vaccinations for those who choose to partake of them or meet certain criteria. These include the following. 

  • Dengue vaccine – This vaccine is recommended for children who live in areas such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands where Dengue fever is more common. It is also recommended for those who have already had the virus. 
  • Influenza –The flu vaccine is available for children six months and up. If you’re feeling uncertain about this vaccine, talk it over with the team at ABC Pediatrics.
