COVID-19 Q & A

What are the in-place COVID-19 safety protocols?

To maximize patient safety, anyone coming to Total Health Primary Care, PLLC, is prescreened prior to entering the office. The staff performs COVID-19 rapid tests outside the building before entering.

If this rapid test comes back with a negative result, the staff admits you to the office to meet with your provider. If you have a positive result, they schedule a video telemedicine visit to provide you with the supportive care needed.

Total Health Primary Care, PLLC, can also inform you about COVID-19 vaccinations and how to get them.

What is a rapid COVID-19 test?

A rapid COVID-19 test, or antigen test, detects protein fragments that are specific to the coronavirus. Turnaround time is about 15 minutes. Rapid tests are most accurate if you have symptoms of COVID-19.

This rapid test gives faster results but sometimes less accurate results than the PCR test. PCR tests for the genetic material specific to COVID-19, even in people who don’t have symptoms. Results usually come back within 24-48 hours.

When should I schedule COVID-19 testing?

If you’re concerned about the COVID-19 symptoms you’re experiencing, contact Total Health Primary Care, PLLC, right away.

Signs of COVID-19 vary and include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

You come in for a same-day or next-day appointment and undergo curbside testing to determine if you have COVID-19. If you are positive for the virus, your practitioner treats you remotely and helps you manage your symptoms at home.

If you have symptoms but have a negative test result, you come in for treatment and to undergo other screenings and a physical exam to rule out flu, bronchitis, or another condition.

You may also schedule testing if you have no symptoms but were exposed to someone with COVID-19. Your workplace, school, or travel destination may also require you to get tested.
