If you want to get a younger appearance but you don’t want to turn to cosmetic surgery in order to get results, then you’ll want to talk to our Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, dermatologists about whether Fraxel laser treatment is right for you.

What is Fraxel?

Fraxel is a fractional skin resurfacing treatment that improves the overall texture and tone of your skin while targeting a variety of common imperfections including,

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dull skin
  • Superficial scars
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation (e.g. age spots; sun spots; melasma)
  • Actinic keratosis (Scaly growths that are the result of sun exposure)

How does Fraxel work?

When the Fraxel laser is directed over your skin it will penetrate into the deeper layers of tissue in order to stimulate the production of collagen, which helps keep skin supple and firm. The fractional laser is extremely precise, only targeting the damaged skin while leaving healthy tissue untouched, which also means a faster recovery period.

Will it hurt?

Some patients report a warming sensation during treatment; however, our skin doctor will apply a topical numbing gel over the area prior to treatment. Cold air will also be directed over the treated areas during your treatment. After treatment, your skin may feel like it’s been sunburned, but this should only last a couple of hours.

How many treatments will I need?

This will depend on the type and severity of skin problems you want to treat with Fraxel; however, it’s often recommended that you get anywhere from 1 to 5 treatment sessions performed about 2-4 weeks apart. In some cases, you may need to wait longer between treatment sessions. The treatment sessions can between 15-45 minutes.

When will I see my results?

Another benefit of Fraxel is that you will see results immediately and results will continue to improve within 2-3 months. It will take a couple of months for the body to produce enough collagen to improve the tone and texture of your skin.
