What is Laparoscopic (Robotic) Surgery?

Laparoscopic Surgery, also known as minimally-invasive surgery, is a procedure in which the surgeon uses a series of small cameras to perform the surgery.  This often results in smaller abdominal incisions.   These procedures minimize scarring and allow for an accelerated post-operation healing process.

Robotic Surgery has helped boraden the scope of minimally invasive surgery.  Patients with rectal cancer/prolapse can now benefit from advantages of minimally invasive surgery.  Additional training is required to perfrom robotic surgery.  The doctors at Providence colorectal have embraced this technology and traning that it has required.  They are among a few in southeast michigan to offer their expertise in treatment of disease utilizing robotics.
