State-of-the-art technology promises a flawless dental crown in a single visit.

It’s surprisingly common for people to have a damaged tooth due to untreated decay or trauma. About 15 million Americans suffer dental injuries and roughly 78 percent of Americans have had at least one cavity by the time they are 17 years old.

However, sometimes teeth are so damaged that a simple filling just won’t be enough to preserve the tooth’s function. In these cases a dental crown is needed; however, if you’ve had a dental crown in the past you may remember that it took multiple visits and even wearing a temporary crown before you finally got your permanent crown. It was quite the ordeal; however, no you don’t have to go through all this. Find out how CEREC in Honolulu could take the stress out of getting your next crown.

What is CEREC?

Also referred to as Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (we know, it’s a mouthful!), CEREC uses innovative CAD/CAM technology to create and fabricate a dental crown quickly and effectively. This technology uses a camera, computer and milling machine to design and fabricate your dental crown in one visit.

What is a CEREC appointment like?

If you’ve had crowns in the past than you are all too familiar with the impressions we had to take; however, CEREC makes this process obsolete. Instead we use our camera to take photos of the damaged tooth. This photo is then uploaded to our computer where we will then employ the use of our CAD technology to create your dental crown. Once designed, the CAM technology takes over to fabricate the crown as you wait. Once the crown is fully fabricated, we will bond it to your tooth to fully restore function and aesthetics.

What are the advantages of CEREC?

Getting your dental crown now only takes an hour rather than a week. This means not having to worry about wearing a temporary crown in the interim (since your crown is fabricated while you wait). This revolutionary technology creates a superior crown that looks just like a natural tooth. Plus, studies have found that CEREC restorations are just as successful as traditional crowns.

If properly cared for, your CEREC crown can last anywhere from five to 15 years. This means keeping up with good oral hygiene and dental care to ensure your crowns last as long as possible. If you’re interested in getting a CEREC crown, give us a call today.
