Experience the Latest Technology!

I’d like to introduce all of my clients to the new toy in my office: the iTero intraoral digital scanner.

The iTero scanner allows a digital impression to be taken. That’s a highly accurate, digital 3D image of the individual characteristics of your tooth surfaces and gum tissue. The iTero scanner is all about keeping you comfortable while delivering precise imagery, without the putty-filled impression tray that makes you gag!

Not only is it more comfortable, but taking a digital scan for your new crown, bridge or Invisalign aligners is quick, which allows you to spend less time at the dentist’s office and more time enjoying your new smile! Go green with iTero!

Get a Winter White Smile

Start the new year with a beautiful smile!

Regular teeth cleaning not only gives you a bright, sexy smile, it actually improves your overall health and can prevent serious disease – not just in your mouth! Gum disease is a bacterial infection caused by plaque buildup, which causes inflammation and gingivitis. But what researchers have seen over the past few years is that the negative effects of gum disease don’t only affect the mouth (where it can destroy bone and make you lose teeth) – they can reach all the way to your heart. Research performed within the last few years has shown that getting your teeth professionally cleaned and scraped reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke by reducing inflammation-causing bacteria and boosting blood vessel function.

If a great natural smile and reduced risk of heart attacks aren’t enough to get you in the door, consider this. When your gums are infected, that toxic bacteria can spread through your bloodstream all over your body and attack your immune system. There is mounting evidence showing a connection between your oral health and your overall health – and, since many serious diseases show symptoms in your mouth first, your dentist could alert you to health problems in time for you to treat them effectively.

Now is always a good time to schedule your next dental exam and teeth cleaning!

How Do We Stay Young and Beautiful?

Maggie was flipping through travel magazines and trying to imagine herself in these beautiful settings. That’s when she realized that she wanted someone to be there with her. She envisioned clear blue waters and warm white sand with two pairs of footsteps along the beach instead of just her one pair.

So Maggie decided to try online dating. She wanted to attract a good man, so she put up her best pictures. She met a man who seemed absolutely perfect for her. Rob was smart, handsome and successful. They hit it off really well over emails and chats, and then they started talking on the phone. Eventually, Rob asked Maggie to meet her in person.

Thoughts of soft kisses after a moonlit stroll danced through her head. But when Maggie looked in the mirror, she realized that’s not even what she looks like anymore. All of her online photos were from ten years ago. She wished there was something she could do about those laugh lines, and she longed for fuller, softer lips.

Maggie asked her friend Diana what her secret was. Diana perpetually looked 10 years younger than she was and was always gaining male attention. Diana told Maggie about Dr. Kristine Marshall. “Dr. Marshall isn’t just a dentist,” she told Maggie. “She can also give you Botox for those fine lines and Juvederm for your laugh lines and thin lips.”

So Maggie went to see Dr. Marshall and was absolutely thrilled with the results. She looked young and beautiful, just like she did 10 years ago. When she met Rob in person, the instant chemistry they had was indescribable.

Porcelain Veneers and Teeth Whitening

PORCELAIN VENEERS

What happens if one of my veneers comes off? If your veneer came out perfectly, it is possible to re-bond it. Usually, veneers do not come out because of the nature of chemical bonding.

Can veneers be taken off if I want them removed? Once your veneer has been bonded, it is usually permanent.

What will my teeth feel like after a veneer has been placed? After your veneer has been placed, it is smooth and feels just like your own teeth.

Composite vs. porcelain veneers; what’s the difference? The difference between composite and porcelain veneers is that composite veneers are temporary as far as longevity. Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, are more of a permanent solution, due to the nature of how it is fabricated.

Do dental veneers look fake? Dental veneers look like a natural perfect-tooth structure. However, it can depend on the clinician’s knowledge and artistic skill. You will want to see before and after photos of actual patients of your dentist. If possible, you will want to see them in person as well.

How do I keep my dental veneers white? You can keep your dental veneers white by brushing and flossing as normal, just like with your natural teeth. Veneers cannot be darkened or whitened; they do not stain. You will want to avoid using harsh toothpaste. I recommend using a gel toothpaste so that you don’t overly scratch your veneers.

TEETH WHITENING

When might tooth whitening not work? Tooth whitening might not work if there is not enough enamel thickness or if your enamel is very worn down.

What special care should I use after my teeth have been whitened? After your teeth have been whitened, avoid colorful foods. If it stains white shirts, it is colorful.

Should I consult a dentist before using at-home teeth-whitening products? You should absolutely consult a dentist before using at-home teeth-whitening products. You want to avoid any discomfort or damaging tissues. Make sure you get a checkup prior to using at-home teeth-whitening products.

What method of teeth whitening is best for me? The two most-popular teeth-whitening products are Boost and Ultradent. Ask your dentist which will work best for you.

Why is teeth whitening so popular? Teeth whitening is popular because everyone wants white, beautiful teeth to complete a happy and successful appearance. Nobody wants yellow teeth.

An Interview with Dr. Kristine Marshall, DDS

Q: Tell us about yourself and your practice.

A: I graduated from Northwestern University’s dental school in Chicago, Illinois as part of the class of 1993. My first inspiration came from my grandfather, who was a dentist in Seoul, Korea. He practiced dentistry until his late 70’s, and I really admired him. All of my relatives became doctors and lawyers, but I was the only one to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps and become a dentist. I love what I do and feel as though I have a knack for doing it well thanks to my small hands and keen eyes. Over the years, my practice has evolved to not just a function of patients’ needs but to enhance their overall features. In this society, we are pushing the envelope to look our best to gain self-confidence. Your smile is just a small portion of it, and I’m happy to play a part in helping those who appreciate the power of a beautiful smile.

Q: Please explain the basic services you offer.

A: We offer general cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry. We don’t just fulfill basic needs, but we can give you a whole cosmetic makeover in just two visits. Advanced services include TMJ analysis, electrosonograph, electromyograph, ICAT, Tens, orthosis, full-mouth reconstruction, veneers, and porcelain crowns. We also do consultation of smile designs.

Q: What types of insurance do you accept?

A: We accept all PPO insurances, Met Life, Cigna, Humana, etc. We file all insurances and accept assignment of benefits.

Q: What are your office hours?

A: We have flexible hours to accommodate any busy schedule by appointment. Normal hours are:

  • Monday: 8:00 am-5:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 8:00 am-5:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 10:00 am-7:00 pm
  • Thursday: 8:00 am-5:00 pm
  • Friday: 9:00 am-1:00 pm

Q: What payment options do you offer?

A: Payments are due at the time of service or at appointment. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, check or cash.

Q: What are porcelain veneers?

A: Porcelain veneers are made up of a composition of porcelain, glass, and resin. The veneers are specially made in a lab by highly trained professionals. A veneer covers part of a tooth to rebuild the loss of tooth structure. A veneer is like a bionically strong enamel structure of a tooth, which can enhance the look and shape of tooth structure. People with chipped, crooked, or stained teeth are good candidates for veneers. Many television personalities and movie stars have veneers. The degree of the white color and shape can be customized by Dr. Kristine Marshall, DDS to look your best, and it only takes two visits. The first visit involves reshaping the defective enamel, taking the impressions, and placing temporary veneers. You will already look better at this point. During your second visit (two weeks later), the permanent veneers are bonded.

Q: How long to dental veneers last?

A: Veneers last a very long time. They are stronger than your natural enamel, but they are not bullet-proof. You will have to take care of them just like your natural teeth. We do offer a lifetime warranty.

Q: Do dental veneers require special care?

A: Just brush and floss. You will still need regular cleaning two to three times a year. It’s best to use a gel-type toothpaste.

Q: Are there alternatives to dental veneers?

A: An alternative to veneers are crowns/caps, which have metal inside (whether whole or part gold or silver or another metal) and porcelain outside. Crowns/caps require more removal of tooth structure to make room for the metal and porcelain and look unnatural. Lumineers are another alternative. They are thin and can only work if you have nearly straight and perfect teeth. It may end up being too bulky and fragile because there will be little to no removal of enamel. It has a very limited application for most people.

Q: Do veneers look natural?

A: Yes, veneers look very natural because they mimic natural enamel. There is no metal; therefore, light will pass through. Dr. Kristine Marshall will put her own artistic touch into every veneer, customizable to each individual.

Q: Does the veneer protect one’s tooth from decay?

A: Veneers cannot decay. Your natural teeth are sealed and bonded with the veneers permanently. Crowns/caps, on the other hand, are cemented, which washes out over time. That means that crowns/caps leave teeth vulnerable to decay.

Q: How much does veneer cost?

A: Our veneer prices range between $1250-$1650. We offer 5-year financing so that anyone can afford a beautiful smile in only two weeks.
