Sports Injuries

Dr. Iliya Beylin has spent his medical career helping athletes of all levels recover from sports injuries. He offers comprehensive and innovative treatments including PRP injections, fracture repair, and foot and ankle reconstructions. At Foot and Ankle Associates of South Florida, Dr. Beylin helps the residents of Plantation and Coral Springs, Florida get back to the sports they love.

What are common sports injuries?

Athletes of all abilities put their bodies, especially their feet, through a lot of strain and pressure. Your running gait, training schedule, and even your footwear can contribute to sports injuries. Even with a carefully monitored training plan, athletes are still at risk of a variety of lower limb injuries including:

  • Blisters
  • Sprained ankles
  • Torn ligaments
  • Shin splints (leg pain)
  • Knee pain
  • Low back pain
  • Other joint or muscle problems.

In addition to these common complaints, athletes are also at a higher risk of developing corns calluses and fungal infections like athlete’s foot.

How are sports injuries treated?

Your treatment depends on the nature of your injury. Dr. Beylin’s comprehensive diagnostics help identify the extent of your injury, which also informs treatment. Strains, sprains, and torn ligaments are often treated with immobilization and instructions to apply the RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) treatment at home. More serious injuries like fractures may require surgical treatment to set or realign your bones.

Dr. Beylin offers customized care to heal your current injury and help you to become stronger, more flexible, and more resistant to future injuries.

How should I take care of my feet to avoid sports injuries?

Dr. Beylin offers customized advice to each of his patients, depending on their sport of choice and other lifestyle factors. You should keep your feet clean and dry, especially if you participate in sports and athletic activities. When your feet are encased in socks and shoes all day, the moist warmth creates a perfect breeding ground for athlete’s foot and toenail fungus infections.

It’s also important to wear correct and supportive footwear. Choose socks made of breathable materials that wick away sweat and moisture. You should also do your best to maintain a healthy body weight as excess weight compounds the pressure you put on your feet.
