A dental implant is a replacement for the root of a tooth. An Implant is a Titanium or Titanium alloy screw that is placed into the jawbone. Once placed the implant is not visible and it functions just like a natural root. The Titanium is biocompatable which means that it will not be rejected by the body; the bone around it will become intimate with the implant and keep it in place. Once the implant has been integrated with the body a crown, bridge or denture can be attached to it depending on the specific situation. Multiple implants are needed to attach bridges or dentures.
