When should I see a podiatrist?

You should schedule an appointment with a podiatrist if:

• Your foot pain is severe
• You experience pain when putting weight on the foot
• You notice a visible change in the shape or color of your feet
• You experience numbness, weakness, or tingling in the feet
• Your pain doesn’t improve within 5-7 days of rest and home care
• Your foot pain is accompanied by a fever (requires immediate medical attention)

You need to schedule an emergency visit with your podiatrist or visit your local hospital for care if:

• You also have diabetes
• You cannot walk
• You notice redness, skin that is warm to the touch, or a high fever (all signs of infection)
• You have an open wound on the foot that contains pus or is slow to heal
