Managing ADHD Behaviors

We have several methods for managing ADHD behavioral concerns at our Waldorf, Leonardtown, MD, pediatric offices. An effective behavioral management strategy can improve learning, school performance, relationship development, and home life.

Two methods frequently used include proper behavioral training and therapy. Behavioral training involves modeling desired behaviors and rewarding them when the child demonstrates them. One effective way to reward good behavior is with praise, which reinforces the desired behavior.

Therapy with a psychologist helps children and teens learn how to manage their emotions and behaviors. It also helps them develop social skills, which can improve their interactions with others.

Some kids might also benefit from medication to reduce the symptoms of ADHD, such as impulsivity. However, medication is just one tool to help kids manage symptoms. It does not cure ADHD.
