We'd like to stress that not all problems are obvious when it comes to your child's growth and development. By having a professional assess your child, we can diagnose issues that you might not have been aware of.
What Happens at Well-Child Visits
Well-child visits are fairly straightforward. We'll begin the process by checking your child's weight and height. Our physician will compare the two to ensure your child is growing appropriately and is at a healthy weight. Our physician will also compare the readings to those of other children of your child's age and gender.
Vital Signs and Heart and Lung Screening
Part of your kid's visit will include us taking your little one's blood pressure and heart rate and ensuring they're normal. We'll also listen to your child's heart and lungs using a stethoscope. During this, we'll be able to hear any murmurs, wheezing, or congestion.
Ears & Eyes
Your kid's eyes and ears are vital to their learning. Though they can live without vision or hearing, they'll need the appropriate accommodations to learn and grow despite any deficits.
That's why part of your child's screening will include looking into their ears and eyes for any problems. We'll also have your child read a chart of letters or shapes (depending on their age) to check their vision. Part of this also includes wearing a pair of headphones and listening for beeps. Your child will need to determine where the noise is coming from, specifically which ear.
