Stress Fracture
Stress fractures are a very common occurrence in the feet. There are many bones in the feet and these can easily become fractured. The most common reasons for stress fractures are repetitive overuse, and injury due to an accident. In athletes and those who participate in sports, stress fractures can happen when by repeated jumping on the foot in a certain way. For example, runners can experience stress fractures by overuse and repeatedly running on hard surfaces. Stress fractures may require a cast, but not always. This depends on the location and the severity of the injury. To reduce the incidence of stress fractures, use orthotics to protect your feet.
