FLIP-FLOPS CAN BE WORSE THAN HIGH HEELS

Many women assume high heels are harder on their feet than flip-flops, but doctors say that’s a huge misconception. When it comes to your stilettos versus your comfy flip-flops, heels are actually the lesser of two evils. Dr. Lorry Melnick of the Cherry Creek Foot Clinic says, “depending on the heel or the flip-flop, I would say that flip-flops are probably worse for the feet because the foot is unprotected.”

The American Podiatric Medical Association says flips-flops can cause tendinitis and even sprained ankles because they provide the foot with very little support. Dr. Melnick explains, “The lack of support in a flip-flop causes the arch to go down. So you have plantar fasciitis and heel pain.” Furthermore, flip-flops don’t provide the foot with protection against being rubbed against harmful objects.
