RISK OF ELEPHANTIASIS STILL OCCURS IN CAMEROON AND ETHIOPIA

Podoconiosis, a non-filarial disease, causes a form of elephantiasis - massive swelling of the legs which is known as a tropical disease. Individuals in developing countries who often walk barefoot are subject to acquiring this disease especially those in contact with red volcanic clay soil. This disease can cause massive swelling of the legs, disfigurement and lead to disabilities. Currently, the disease has been reported to be present in 32 countries with over 4 million cases worldwide.
