"Diabetes is a systemic concern. It's a lifestyle more than a disease. It becomes a disease over time. What I tell my patients is that the most important thing is diet. If your blood sugars are good, you have a much likely chance of avoiding problems," says Frederick Kruger, DPM.

"Diabetics should not cut their toenails. They should not walk barefoot. They need proper footgear. The community standard is that they should look at their feet at least once a day," says Dr. Kruger.
