PODIATRIST DISCUSSES IMPORTANCE OF LEG MEASUREMENTS
posted: Feb. 28, 2023.
Richard Blake, DPM discussed leg-length discrepancies with Ben Pearl, DPM on Dr. Pearl’s podcast Fit Foot U. Dr. Blake stated that leg length is often overlooked, even though it is commonly present. The initial usual clues include head tilt to the shorter side and shoulder drop to the longer leg. Hip elevation usually points to the longer leg side. The following clip reviews these points:

Pearl added that translating measurement with tape or supine positioning alone can be challenging because of potential pelvic rotation. He suggested that to obtain further information about pelvic rotations, you should review the work of UK podiatrist Clifton Bradley. Dr. Bradley was an elite UK mile runner who suffered his own pubic symphysis injury, prompting him to study pelvic asymmetry in depth.
