PEEL AWAY THE DAMAGE AND RENEW YOUR COMPLEXION

Chemical peels can help stimulate the production of new skin cells to give your face a brighter, younger look. There are several types of peels, each tailored to different skin needs.

HOW DO CHEMICAL PEELS WORK?

During a chemical peel, a skin care expert applies a specially formulated solution to your face that removes layers of skin and in the process, reduces the appearance of acne scars, sun damage and other imperfections. The chemical peel also brings new skin cells to the surface, so your face will have a younger, healthier look. The formula we use is based on your individual needs and the depth of the peel. While most chemical peels are performed on the face, some can be done on the neck or hands.

A superficial peel, also known as a “lunchtime peel,” uses a milder formulation that affects only the outer layer of skin. This serves as a gentle exfoliant that can help improve mild skin discoloration or texture. A medium peel often involves glycolic or trichloroacetic acid, and reaches the top and middle layers of skin. This treatment removes damaged skin cells and improves imperfections such as age spots and fine lines. A deep peel usually involves tricholoracetic acid or phenol and penetrates deep into the middle layer of skin to remove damaged cells, moderate lines, age spots and shallow scars.

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR A CHEMICAL PEEL?

A chemical peel is a common, safe procedure when it is performed by a qualified professional. Before scheduling a peel, however, you should talk to your health care provider about possible risks from conditions such as hormone treatments or allergies. Common side effects include soreness or redness in the treated area, which can last days or weeks, depending on the peel you receive. If you get a chemical peel for a special event, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to recover before the big day! Before and after the peel, use a sunscreen or moisturizer with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your healing skin.
